Aminul Hakim, the New Chairperson of BIGF
The Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum (BIGF) has announced its executive committee for the 2024-2026 term. Mohammad Aminul Hakim, CEO of Amber IT Limited, has been elected Chairperson, succeeding Hasanul Haq Inu, the former Information Minister.
Other key members of the newly formed committee include Vice Chairpersons Saidur Rahman, General Manager of Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC, and Md. Saimum Reza Talukder, Senior Lecturer at the School of Law, BRAC University. Mohammad Abdul Haque Anu, Executive Editor of Computer Jagat, will serve as Secretary-General, while AHM Bazlur Rahman, CEO of BNNRC, joins as an executive member.
In a press statement on Tuesday, Aminul Hakim emphasized the importance of addressing not only domestic internet policies but also global governance issues. He highlighted the need to ensure equity in internet governance through multi-stakeholder collaborations. He further outlined plans to organize seminars and workshops on emerging technologies such as IoT, AI, and Big Data.
The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is a multi-stakeholder platform for discussing internet governance policies. As part of the UN’s initiatives, BIGF serves as a national-level platform to facilitate policy dialogues and contribute to the development of the internet in Bangladesh through advisory roles and various activities.
This leadership transition signals a renewed commitment to fostering innovation and inclusivity in the digital landscape.
